Go with the Flow

Good morning! I got my week off to a healthy start yesterday with a nice 7 km morning run. I had originally planned to do RPM but the weather was far too nice for an indoor workout. I had a very enjoyable run, but how could you not when it looks like this outside?

I got really into running last summer and this morning’s run reminded me why. I’m so lucky to have such a scenic running route near my house and will definitely be taking advantage of it more now that it’s warm outside.

Post-run, I had some yogurt and blueberries. For lunch, I threw together an omelette with 1 egg, 2 egg whites, 1 wedge of camembert cheese and a handful of diced mushrooms. My omelettes usually fall apart mid-flip, so I’m pretty proud of this one:

After lunch, I had my annual physical. I always feel like such a bore when I go to the doctor’s. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink very much, I exercise almost daily, get 7-8 hours of sleep every night, eat my vegetables… I almost want to make stuff up so my doctor has the opportunity to lecture me about something.

We also had a visit yesterday from my sister, who had just come back from her ultrasound and presented us with photographic evidence of her impending motherhood (not that we didn’t believe her or anything ;) ).

Does that look like a boy or a girl to you?

After dinner, I went with my sister to Body Flow. I’m going through a Body Flow phase these days. I was doing it once a week back in January and February but at some point got bored of it and stopped. Lately though, I’ve been craving it again and since it’s the only class my sister will go to in her present state, it’s a nice way for us to spend an evening together. It’s also very relaxing — I slept like a baby last night! Which is good because I have a looong and most likely stressful day of work ahead of me.

    what a beautiful day!
i have a quick question for you, which occurred to me today as I was hauling myself to the gym – do your workouts suffer during your time of the month? my period started this morning and i was cranky all day, with persistent cramp in my stomach and lower back. fortunately it’d cleared when i went to the gym, and didn’t notice any change in my workout (although i maybe felt a bit more bloated than normal afterwards).

how do you keep up your impressive schedule when your body is urging you to sit down with full-fat chips and trashy tv??

At the risk of being hated by every girl who reads this… I don’t really get monthly cramps anymore. I used to when I was younger though and I can’t imagine working out in that state. If I were to get them now, I would probably just reduce the frequency and intensity of my workouts for that week.

Becca, I know you didn’t ask me but if I make sure I am properly hydrated (which sometimes means drinking water even if I don’t feel like it starting before I actually start my period), I can find it within myself while I’m menstruating to get up and exercise because the exercising helps alleviate the cramps a lot. They do come back but for the time I am exercising, I am cramp free (and also allergy free, actually).
