What I Ate Wednesday: Just Another Day Edition

Happy Wednesday!

I don’t have any clever theme for this post or any cool eats to share today. Just a typical day of eating here but, hey, isn’t that what WIAW is all about?

Breakfast

Yesterday morning, I ate a banana before my 6 a.m. RPM class. Post-workout, I ate a P28 bagel with ricotta cheese and cinnamon. I’ve become a huge fan of P28 bread – it has the heavenly taste and texture of bread with all the protein of a chicken breast (pretty eloquent description, no?). This week, I decided to try the bagels and they’re even better. I’m officially declaring P28 one of my packaged food staples, along with VitaTops and Peppo’s frozen falafel (also featured in this week’s post – shocker!).

Morning Snack

Pre-cut apple slices are one of my favourite portable snacks. They’re convenient to bring to work and, according to the results of a quick Google search, the calcium ascorbate they’re soaked in to preserve them won’t kill me. Bonus! I like to dip them in peanut butter for a mid-morning snack.

Lunch

I swear I don’t eat these as much as it seems based on my previous WIAW posts. I eat about 2 a week on days when I don’t have time / am too lazy to cook (but for some reason, I always seem to eat them on WIAW days).

Afternoon Snack

Blackberries were on sale this weekend so I picked up a few containers. Yesterday, I decided to add them to my Greek yogurt instead of granola. Terrible idea. This was one of the foulest food combinations I’ve ever created but I forced it down knowing I’d be hangry by dinner time if I skipped my afternoon snack.

Dinner

After work, I cooked a hearty Pork Chops and Rice One-Pot Supper from the Milk Calendar.

It turned out a little bland but then I had an inspired idea…

Possibly the greatest condiment of all time. It made a world of difference to the tastiness of this dish.

Evening Snack

And finally, my favourite evening ritual…

Winding down with a warm, chocolatey VitaTop and a cup of chamomile tea!

What was your most recent food fail?

Other than the aforementioned blackberries and Greek yogurt combo, my most recent food fail was ordering Pavlova for dessert at a restaurant. I was trying to be adventurous but I was pretty devastated when I discovered Pavlova is essentially just a flavourless mound of hardened egg whites and sugar. Ick! I ended up eating half of Josh’s bread pudding and leaving the Pavlova untouched. The moral of the story — never mess around when it comes to dessert!

  1. I had a food fail recently when I ate at a new restaurant and they gave us free desert so I ordered red velvet cake even though I was too full. I took it home with me and since I didn’t know what the frosting was made of I stuck it in the fridge and when I took it out a few hours later it was so hard and dry and disgusting!! I tried to let it thaw out and soften a bit and tried it again.. still gross! It looked like it would have been really good too! Fail. :/
