Scenes from the Weekend

Happy Monday! I got my first sunburn of the summer on Friday while eating lunch with co-workers on a patio. In the evening, Josh and I hit up another patio for dinner and drinks with friends – summer has officially arrived people!

On Saturday, Josh and I went to Canada’s Wonderland to check out their newest roller coaster, Leviathan.

That drop in the background? 306 feet tall. At an 80 degree angle. At a speed of 92 mph.

Pretty crazy but to be honest, I didn’t enjoy it that much. After waiting in line for nearly 2 hours and getting burned all over again (tsk, tsk)  I wasn’t feeling too great and got a little lightheaded after the first drop. I think I’ll have to try it a few more times before I fully commit to an opinion (we bought season’s passes this year so this will be the first of many Wonderland trips).

After Wonderland, we went out for sushi. To start, we shared a seaweed salad and tuna carpaccio.

This was followed by a rainbow roll and avocado roll.

Sunday was a bit of a downer. My dad (pictured below with me and my sister) passed away just over five years ago so Father’s Day is always a little rough. I spent the day babysitting my nephew while my sister took her husband out for lunch to celebrate his first Father’s Day. After they got home, I went to my Nonno’s to spend the afternoon with him - we chatted and watched the Portugal vs. Netherlands game, which was nice. Even though I didn’t get to spend the day with my own dad, I’m glad I got to help celebrate two other wonderful dads I know and love.

For dinner, Josh came over and I cooked him spaghetti with home-made pesto sauce. This was in exchange for him helping me set up my new iPhone, which is now fully functional (but I’m still using my old phone until next week because I’ve already paid for it up until then).

In the evening, I bought yet another Groupon for fitness classes. This one was $12 for 10 kickboxing or boot camp classes at a local martial arts studio. I have until December to use this one up so between that, my 20 yoga classes and my regular gym classes, I should have enough to stave off workout boredom over the next few months.

And that brings us to Monday. Today was full of meetings and interviews so even though I was busy, I feel like I didn’t get a lot done in terms of actually checking things off my to do list. Tomorrow, I don’t have anything scheduled so I’m looking forward to spending the entire day just sitting down at my desk and tackling everything that’s due.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

  3. I’m sorry that Father’s Day was a bit rough for you :( but I think that staying busy like you did and babysitting a child… I know being with kids always makes me smile and takes my mind off of things :)
That sushi looks like perfection, that is the kind I often order too… definitely one of my favorites!
All of the fresh, flavorful and cheap(!) fruit shows that summer has arrived in these parts
