What I’ve Been Eating Wednesday

Happy WIAW!

This post is going to be a random assortment of recent eats since I’ve been a little out of the blogging loop this past week due to the move.

I haven’t been doing much cooking lately because people keep bringing us food. Josh’s friend’s mom made us zongzi, a traditional Chinese dish of glutinous rice stuffed with meat, beans and other fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. I’m all about trying new food (especially authentic ethnic food) so this was a welcome treat!

To be honest, I have no idea what’s in there – some kind of meat and starchy vegetable? But it was tasty as hell.

My sister also baked us some zucchini and goat cheese muffins (pictured below) and butternut squash soup made from scratch.

Other than that, I’ve been living off omelettes (easiest meal ever), salads (I need to get some veggies in there somewhere) and massive portions of cheap take-out that theoretically should last a few meals (although I ended up eating all of this tofu and eggplant stir fry).

I’ve also done a little bit of cooking since we moved but nothing that merits a photograph.

As for workouts, I’m now back to my usual routine. Last week, it was tough to get in my regular workouts so on Friday, I ended up doing an at-home workout, which I’d never actually done before. At my mom’s house, there wasn’t really anywhere I could exercise without potentially breaking something and/or banging into a piece of furniture, so I never looked into at-home workouts or exercise DVDs.

In my new house, we have an unfinished basement, which we’ve transformed into a man cave for Josh and his friends (my sneaky way of tricking him into putting all of his video game crap in the basement and out of my grown up living room). We have a TV down there with a big carpet and lots of space, so I can definitely start rocking more at-home workouts.

On Friday, I did a very simple circuit workout that I took from Women’s Health magazine.

I did Total Rounds, which consists of 12 reps of each exercise 5 times. It was quick and challenging but super boring. Maybe I’ll enjoy workout DVDs more?

That’s all for me – I’m planning to cook a “real” dinner tonight (chicken and beans with rice in a chili sauce).

Thanks once again to Jenn @ Peas and Crayons for hosting this awesome weekly event! :)

At-home workouts – yay or nay?

For those of you who do work out at home, what’s your favourite source for at-home workouts? DVDs, magazines, websites – or do you just make them up as you go?

I do some at home workouts. Mostly when I am short on time but want to do something, or I’m just not up to venturing out into the cold/hot/public. I usually do fitness workouts from the internet – various websites and blogilates is a fave for pilates. It’s also usually less of a workout for me, but I accept it as an easy workout day. I also do HIIT excersises without gym equipment at home – just simple things that usually last about 25 – 30 minutes.

I’m glad the move went well! :)

oooh, that steamed rice is soo good! I forget what we used to call em, but I used to pick them up once in a while for lunch/dinner. I exercise at home, and used to do it in a very small space where I’d watch DVDs on my laptop set on a small kitchen table, and I had a space about 7 or 8 square feet (after moving furniture. At our new place, I have a space about twice as big and my husband put the couch on casters (you can get them at Home Depot) so it’s even easier to clear a space! I miss my Jazzercise class, but there’s nothing close by so I just exercise at home and get ideas/motivations from other bloggers. I mostly do aerobic and strength from DVDs (Jazzercise and Ballet Body by Leah Sarago Fitness,) and like to jog on the w/ends with my husband. I hope you do more at-home workouts, have fun! :)

  3. Ohhh I’ve never even HEARD of zongzi but it sounds delicious!!! Authentic food is the best!!! :)

If I squeeze in a workout at home, it’s usually Jillian Michaels, done in the living room, with my roommate haha. We love the 30 day Shred! It’s only 20min but it’ KICKS BUTT!

  4. I very rarely work out at home, but as you know I’ve started doing a bit of yoga. I used to do DVDs quite a lot when I lived at my parents.
