You might be thinking this post is a little late considering everyone already did their “Fall Favourites” posts weeks ago but I beg to differ – everyone else was just too early with theirs. Fall just started, y’all.
Josh and I got into the spirit of the season with a trip to Springridge Farm on Saturday.
This is such a charming little place to visit. Located in the middle of farm country, it’s an old barn that’s been converted into a cafe/gift shop that smells like freshly baked pie crust (if only my house could smell like that all the time). In addition to amazing pastries and sandwiches, they also sell super cute home decor, gifts, jewelry, scarves and specialty foods.

For lunch, I had the Holiday Special – a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with lettuce, cranberry sauce and… wait for it… stuffing!

I want to hug whoever came up with the idea of putting a turkey dinner in a sandwich. I also had a few bites of Josh’s apple pie for dessert. We then went outside to shop for a pumpkin…
…and ended up leaving with a $200 painting instead. Oops.
After our outing, I went to get my hair cut and finally did something I’ve been debating for, like, the last 10 years…

They didn’t turn out exactly how I pictured them in my head (that’s the thing with bangs…) but I don’t hate them. I’m just not 100% sold on them yet.
Anyway, since I’ve now completely embraced the fact that it’s fall, here are some of my favourite things about this season:
1) Halloween candy
How awesome are those variety packs of mini-chocolate bars? Josh and I are currently working our way through the Cadbury series.

What, you didn’t think we bought them to give out to children did you?
2) Harry Potter

This is kind of random but I’m slowly making my way through the entire Harry Potter series at a rate of one book per year. I read the first book two Septembers ago and now it’s become a tradition to read a new one every fall. It’s very seasonal, since all of the books begin in September and with all the witchery going on, it’s fitting all the way through to Halloween. I’m currently on the third book.
3) Fall runs
I love running on a sunny fall afternoon – the leaves look so pretty and it’s refreshing to run when the air is nice and crsip.

Okay, I haven’t actually done one yet (hence the stock photography) but just the prospect of hitting the trails one of these Saturdays puts me in a good mood.
4) Extra cash
My little tutoring side business dries up in the summer so the extra income at this time of year is always a nice bonus. Especially since I now do ridiculous things like drop $200 on wall art.
5) Fall forward
An extra hour of sleep? I’ll take it! (And please don’t try to tell me that it’s not really an “extra” hour because I don’t want to hear that nonense).
What are your favourite things about Fall?
What’s your favourite type of Halloween candy?
