That, ladies and gentlemen, is the route I take home from work during rush hour. It takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get home in this mess but if I stop off at the gym near my office after work, I avoid it altogether and shave up to 30 minutes off my commute time.
Best fitspiration ever!
Because even at my absolute laziest, I’d rather go to the gym for an hour than sit in traffic for half that time. (If I had a Pinterest board, I would totally stick that phrase on the above picture and pin that shit!)
The take away from this? Make working out the easier option. You’re not always going to look forward to your next workout, especially if you’re just doing it to maintain a healthy lifestyle (as opposed to actively trying to change your body) so if you can integrate it into your daily routine in a way that makes life easier, do it.
As for my weekend workouts, I’ve started working out with my sister again. We’d been on different schedules for awhile since she had her baby but now she’s available for early a.m. workouts on Saturdays and Sundays. We usually do kickboxing on Saturday mornings and BodyPump Express and CXWORX on Sunday mornings.
Knowing she’ll give me hell if I cancel our standing date is motivation enough for me to get up early, even if I’ve had a late night the night before.
Plus, it’s an excuse to visit my sister and her family, which I always look forward to no matter how tired I am. I usually arrive a little early so I can hang out with my nephew for a bit.

The take away? Workout buddies can make things fun. I don’t think you should become dependent on them but if you can find someone who shares your enthusiasm for fitness (and isn’t likely to flake out every week), it adds a social aspect to your workout routine, which makes you more likely to stick to it.
So, in a nutshell, my current routine usually goes like this:
Sunday – BodyPump Express / CXWORX
Monday – BodyStep or Rest
Tuesday – BodyPump
Wednesday – BodyAttack or Rest
Thursday – Rest
Friday – BodyPump
Saturday – Kickboxing or other cardio
My Groupon at the Clarity Centre expired so I have a couple of other fitness Groupons I’m considering (one for hot yoga and one for spin classes). In the meantime, I’ll mostly be doing Les Mills classes for my workouts.
What are some ways you make working out more convenient and/or enjoyable?
