Under the Weather

I had such a relaxing weekend. It was just what I needed to get me out of my bad mood from last week and I expected to wake up this morning feeling completely refreshed and ready to tackle the week ahead.

Instead, I woke up with a raging sore throat that only got worse throughout the day.

Ugh.

Consequently, I skipped the gym today and don’t know if I’m going to make it tomorrow. So much for getting back on track.

Anyway, I don’t want to dwell on it so instead let me share some of my weekend highlights.

Halloween Fun

I used to love Halloween as a kid but as I became too old to celebrate it (either by Trick or Treating as a kid or using it as an excuse to dress like a skank in public in my early twenties), it kind of fell off the radar.

Now that I have my own place, I’m getting into the Halloween spirit again. Josh and I went to Walmart on Saturday and bought a bunch of Halloween candy and decor. We also carved our pumpkin.

So yeah I’m actually excited for Halloween this year – we’re going to hand out candy and watch the latest episode of American Horror Story.

Yoga

I did an amazing class at iGita on Sunday. There were only three people in the class and we had a very hands-on instructor. I personally love it when yoga teachers come around and physically assist you – it helps me get more out of each pose and assures me that my form is correct throughout.

Because it was a small class, the teacher was able to observe us and make sure each and every single pose was done correctly. It really helped me stay engaged and focused and made it that much more challenging. I was pretty sore afterwards.

Date Night(s)

On Friday, Josh and I saw Argo. We hadn’t been to a movie in ages and had been planning to watch Argo ever since it came out but something seemed to always come up. We finally went and while I didn’t love it, it was entertaining and the last twenty minutes or so had me seriously stressed out (in a good way).

On Saturday, we went out for dinner at a Middle Eastern restaurant. I had the Falafel platter, as I’d been craving falafel all week.

Catching Up

During the day on Saturday, I hung out with a friend I hadn’t seen since the summer. We didn’t do anything special – just hung out at her place, drank tea, chatted and watched television – but sometimes those kinds of catch up sessions are the best.

I also got a lot done around the house on Sunday – laundry, groceries, cooking, etc. – so at least I don’t have to worry about any of that this week. I’m looking forward to feeling better and getting back into my routine (for real this time!)

I hope any East Coast readers are staying safe!

Do you like hands-on fitness instructors or does it weird you out to be touched by strangers?

Do you still celebrate Halloween or has it lost its magic?

  1. don’t worry about it, getting back on track is totally mental as well. sounds like you had a weekend you needed. i wish I did something festive for halloween.

I’ve been wanting to see Argo for ages. I think I’m seeing it this weekend and I can’t wait. I’m sure as soon as you are feeling better again you’ll get straight back into it – sometimes you just need to take a bit of time off, especially if you’re sick! It’s probably because you worked so hard for so long and your body really needed a rest. At least, that’s what usually happens to me! :)

  3. That is too bad you are under the weather. Being sick is never good. Halloween has lost it’s magic for me, although I was never a huge fan even as a kid.
