What is it about getting new workout clothes that makes going to the gym that much more fun? Yesterday, I went to the Nike outlet store, where they were having a huge sale on Livestrong running shorts. I picked up two pairs and a couple of tops:

This morning, it was all rainy and miserable out so I decided to go with this T-shirt and shorts combo to brighten things up:

My favourite thing about these shorts (other than the fact that they were less than $20) is that they have built-in spandex shorts underneath so, unlike my other running shorts, I can wear them to fitness classes without having to worry about flashing everyone. Double win!

Perfect for this morning’s boot camp class. On that note, here’s what went down today:
Combination 1:
Curtsy squats with an abductor lift (1 minute each leg)
Bunny hops (1 minute)
Dynamic lunges (1 minute)
Jumping jacks (1 minute)
Combination 2:
Wide rows (1 minute)
Half-turn jumps (similar to this exercise only skip counts 2 and 4; 1 minute)
Side plank with dumbbell raise, push up, switch arms (1 minute)
Sumo squats with overhead press (1 minute)
Jumping jacks (1 minute)
Combination 3:
Box jumps with a plate (1 minute)
Tricep dips (1 minute)
Burpees and jump squats (1 minute)
Jumping jacks (1 minute)
Repeat x2
Combination 4:
Side plank with twist (30 seconds one side)
Mountain runners (1 minute)
Side plank with twist (30 seconds other side)
Mountain runners (1 minute)
I have to admit, I did not feel great during this workout. At one point, I felt slightly nauseous, which has never happened before. I don’t know why – I slept well last night, ate a typical pre-workout breakfast (peanut butter and banana on whole grain toast) and was well hydrated. Luckily, the feeling passed and I was okay for the rest of the workout. I definitely didn’t bring my A-game though.
After boot camp, I had a massive lunch – two cups of skim milk immediately post-workout, followed by an avocado, egg and cheese wrap, an apple and a home-made peanut butter protein bar an hour later. A lot for one sitting, but it kept me full all the way to dinner time. For dinner, I re-visited a recipe I tried a few months ago but for some reason forgot about. It was so amazingly delicious that it warrants its own post, so I’ll share the recipe tomorrow.
